Duke divinity student still hospitalized after Costco parking lot shooting

DURHAM, N.C. (WFXR) – A church in Danville, Virginia is asking for prayers for one of their clergy members after he was shot in a Costco parking lot in Durham this past weekend. 

According to Durham police, the shooting happened around 1:30 on Saturday, March 9. 

Ryan Ware, a student at Duke Divinity School, was transported to the hospital with serious and possibly life-threatening injuries, Virginia officials said.  

Durham police said Thursday night Ware was still hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police have not released information about a suspect at this time. 

The Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church released the following statement: 

“This past weekend, one of our clergy members in the Danville District, and a student at Duke Divinity School in North Carolina, was the victim of a shooting in North Carolina.

We, the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church, join together with the Duke Divinity School community in offering prayers for him.

We ask that our clergy and laity pray for his healing and for strength for his family and friends. We will share more information as we are able.”
