DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Duke University has decided to not sign a cooperative agreement with GoTriangle that was needed for Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit project.
Duke said deadlines imposed by federal and state governments are preventing the University from signing an agreement.
GoTriangle calls the decision “especially disappointing” and a “major setback” for the entire Triangle region.
Duke described putting an elevated electric rail line “within 150-feet of the most densely concentrated
corridor of patient care and biomedical research facilities in the state” as a “complex undertaking.”
Duke listed the unresolved challenges in a letter which can be read here.
