DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Church leaders around the country, and in the Triangle, are preparing for A Night to Shine event.

The event is a prom for people with special needs. Friday night from 6-9 p.m., anyone 14 years old and up can come out to One Love Christian Church in Durham to celebrate.

It’s free. Everyone attending will be crowned king and queen.

“This particular segment of population is often times overlook, forgotten, ostracized, bullied, so we’re here to let people know they’re not alone,” said Pastor John Fitzpatrick of One Love Christian Church

“Parents really do go through a tough time when they have a child with exceptional needs, because not everybody understands the things they have to go through,” said Dietrich Mcmillan, the outreach coordinator at One Love Christian Church.

Leaders are still looking for about 60 more people to sign up for the event. More information is available here.
