DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A domestic call to authorities led to a short law enforcement pursuit that ended in a crash involving the suspect and innocent bystanders, according to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.
Dispatchers received a 911 call regarding a domestic incident Thursday morning and by the time deputies arrived on the scene, two people were seen getting into a vehicle and leaving the area, authorities said.
Deputies pursued the vehicle down Southerland Street for about two miles before the driver of the suspect vehicle slammed into an innocent bystander’s vehicle near N.C. Highway 98, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver of the suspect vehicle was arrested and charged with fleeing to elude arrest. Other charges related to the domestic incident are pending, the sheriff’s office said.
The suspect had a passenger in the vehicle, but they will not be charged in the incident.
The suspect’s passenger and the passengers in the other vehicle were all treated for injuries by EMS at the scene. No one was transported to the hospital.
The name of the suspect and the additional charges they will face have not been released at this time.
