Durham double-shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured, police say

Durham police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another hurt Thursday night.   

Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Canal Street shortly before 11:15 p.m. When officers arrived on scene they located two men with gunshot wounds.

Emergency responders pronounced one man dead at the scene. He has been identified as Justin Royster, 27, of Durham. The other victim, who has not been identified, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said they’re investigating the death as a homicide.
