DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) - Lightning is to blame for a fire that displaced eight people and damaged a Durham home Friday afternoon, officials say.
The blaze was reported just before 4:50 p.m. at 317 Excalibur Drive, according to a news release from Durham fire officials.
"Multiple callers reported the house had been struck by lightning and was on fire," the news release said.
As crews arrived, flames and heavy smoke were visible from the roof of the two-story home.
Crews managed to get the fire under control in 20 minutes, but the attic and top floor sustained heavy damage, authorities said.
Five adults and three children were displaced and are being assisted by The American Red Cross.
Officials said 25 firefighters responded to the call and crews were on the scene for about two hours.
