DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Authorities say that two members of a jazz band died in a crash in Durham last week.

The wreck was reported on April 10 around 9:50 p.m. on Farrington Mill Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Alexander Almasy, 56, was driving and died at the scene, officials said.

Carter Doyle, 61, was taken to UNC Hospitals, where he later died.

The pair were in a jazz band and were headed back home that night, according to troopers.

The crash happened when a car tried to pass another in a no-passing zone. That car side-swiped a truck and then collided head-on with Almasy’s, officials said.

The driver of the car that was trying to pass illegally will face charges.
