No one was injured in a scrap fire that sent a large plume of smoke into the sky over downtown Durham Tuesday morning, officials said.
Around 9:45 a.m., the Durham Fire Department responded to a fire call at 217 S. Holman Street, which is near the intersection of S. Alston and Angier avenues.
Responding firefighters found a “pile of scrap vehicles” on fire at Elite Scrap Metals.
Images released by the Durham Fire Department show more than a dozen firefighters and a ladder truck battling the flames.
