NASHVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — The Nash County Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for Lynn Keel, accusing him of murdering his wife, Diana Keel.
Diana Keel went missing a week ago. Authorities said her body was found by a NCDOT worker in a wooded area in Tarboro Tuesday.
Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone earlier called Lynn a person of interest in the case. The arrest warrant wasn’t issued until Friday afternoon.
Friday evening, deputies were taking items, including several guns, that belonged to Lynn Keel and storing them in a secure location, officials said.
Stone called Lynn Keel, who was last seen around noon Thursday, “armed and dangerous.”
His wife, Diana Keel had many titles, she was a mother of two, a wife, sister and friend.
For the last few years, she worked as an Emergency Room nurse at Wilson Medical Center.
“Never had a bad thing to say about anybody. Would always try and help someone out if they needed it,” Taryn Edwards, who was Diana’s friend.
CBS 17 spoke with Edwards Wednesday.
She said she helped Diana learn to drive and get her nursing degree.
They met after Diana married Lynn. The couple met in Colombia where Diana is from and moved to Nash County.
“When she made the decision the first that she wanted to try and leave. I was, I was helping her with that,” Edwards said.
Edwards said when Lynn Keel found out, he no longer allowed them to speak. That was back in 2017.
When Diana Keel went missing last week, Edwards said she thought the worst.
“That he finally hurt her. That the fears that I had had from the first little bit after first meeting her that he finally succeeded,” Edwards said.
Investigators said Diana Keel’s 18-year-old daughter and coworkers reported her missing.
“Lynn is kind of quiet and to himself,” Momeyer Mayor Kenneth Parker said.
Investigators confirmed Diana was his second wife. His first wife, Bess died in 2006.
Her death happened at the same home where Diana lived. The Medical Examiner ruled it an accident, saying she hit her head after falling down the front steps.
Authorities are looking for Lynn Keel. He’s described as 57-years-old, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with blue eyes and blonde hair.
Deputies said he’s likely driving a 1998 Chevrolet C/K Pickup 1500 possibly pewter or gold. The license plate number is BBM-9232.
Any information about Keel’s location should be passed along to the Nash County Sheriff’s Office at (252) 459- 4121 or Twin County Crime Stoppers at (252) 977-1111.
