CAMERON, N.C. (WNCN) – A Harnett County deputy shot in the line of duty will return to work after 10 months.

James Eric Cook was shot in the face and chest on April 14, 2018. Officials said he was responding to a call about a missing teen when he got into a scuffle with 16-year-old Mario Garza III.

Harnett County Sheriff Wayne Coates said Cook was wearing a bulletproof vest that saved his life.

The sheriff’s office announced he’ll return to work Monday.
