Benson police find teen girl missing since the weekend

BENSON, N.C. (WNCN) — Mekaylah Stewart, 18, was found Wednesday evening and has returned home, police said.


BENSON, N.C. (WNCN) — Benson police are looking for a teen girl who was last seen Saturday afternoon when she told her family, “I’ll be back.”

Mekaylah Stewart, 18, left her home around 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 19. She hasn’t been seen since then, police said.

Stewart’s aunt contacted police on Tuesday to report that she had not returned home.

Stewart, of the 500 block of N. Ryals Street, is approximately 5 foot 10 and weighs around 155 pounds. She has brown eyes, black hair and was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red T-shirt.

Authorities believe the teen may be in the Benson or Selma area. Police said they have followed up with her family and are also working with the Selma Police Department.

She has left home before in a similar manner and she is not believed to be in danger at this time, according to authorities.

Stewart’s information has been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
