Clayton police investigating deadly hit and run near highway 70 as possible homicide

CLAYTON, N.C. (WNCN) – Clayton police are currently investigating a fatal hit and run that occurred Sunday morning as a possible homicide, Clayton Public Information Officer Nathanael Shelton said Sunday afternoon.

The fatal hit and run happened near highway 70 and Medical Park Drive at approximately 6:30 a.m., Nathanael confirmed.

Upon arrival, Clayton police discovered a body on the side of the westbound lanes.

Officers are currently searching for a red Chevrolet Silverado.

The GMC Sierra 2 is said to be made between 1997-2007 and could have damage to the front or side of the vehicle.

Shelton said after Clayton Fire and Johnston County EMS arrived and determined the victim deceased, the crime scene evidence suggested a possible homicide.

Shelton said there are currently no other details at this time.
