Clayton celebrates 150th anniversary

CLAYTON, N.C. (WNCN) — The Town of Clayton is turning 150 years old this week and a year-long celebration is in the works.

Clayton was founded on April 12, 1869.

Mayor Jody McLeod and the Town are joining forces with nonprofit, civic and church groups to plan the year-long celebration marking the town’s big anniversary.

McLeod will proclaim the anniversary at a special ceremony on Friday at 9 a.m. on Main Street across from Town Square.

The mayor, who is a Clayton native, stopped by at CBS 17 studios on Tuesday to talk about the 150th anniversary of the town he now leads.
