The Highway Patrol said a 64-year-old Youngsville man was one of three people killed in a nine-vehicle collision on Interstate-40 in Johnston County on Wednesday.
William Van Oneal, 61, of Garner, was driving a flatbed truck eastbound on I-40 near mile marker 319 when he failed to stop for a traffic back up and plowed into several vehicles, the Highway Patrol said.
Oneal faces three counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, the Highway Patrol said.
Anthony Peters was driving a 2008 Volkswagen passenger vehicle when it was struck by the flatbed.
Peters was killed in the collision.
McRoy and Josephine Skipper, of Myrtle Beach were also kill, Myrtle Beach Online reports.
Mcroy Skiper worked as a CPA and partner with WebsterRogers LLP and was the longtime chairman of the Tidelands Health board of trustees.
The Highway Patrol said troopers were investigating a separate crash in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 323 which caused backups.
That’s when Oneal’s flatbed truck slammed into vehicles – causing a chain-reaction crash, the Highway Patrol said.
