Several fire departments were called to a working fire at a Johnston County business on Thursday night, according to officials.
The fire, which officials said was a three-alarm, was reported at 3777 U.S.-70 business at what property records show as Byrds Wholesale. The call came at 7:28 p.m. Firefighters got it under control around 10:30 p.m.
No one was at the business at the time of the fire. Officials said there was a lot of lumber inside, and once the metal roof collapsed, it made it difficult to fight the blaze. The wood and other materials were still burning underneath.
Officials aren’t sure how the fire started.
Trying to stay positive, owner “Wimpy” Byrd said they’ll “start over on Monday.” The business builds sheds, so there are materials for rebuilding on site.
Wilson Mills Fire Department was listed by officials as the lead department on the call.
