ANGIER, N.C. (WNCN) — Two people were sent to a hospital after a three-vehicle wreck Friday morning in Johnston County.

The wreck involved a tractor-trailer, a pickup truck, and an SUV, the N.C. Highway Patrol said.

Troopers received a call about the wreck at 6:37 a.m.

According to the highway patrol, the tractor trailer was traveling west on N.C. 210, about six miles east of Angier when the driver attempted to back into the Star Valley subdivision on Star Valley Drive to deliver grass.

The pickup truck, traveling east on N.C. 210, collided with the trailer portion of the tractor-trailer. The pickup then rolled back onto the right shoulder of N.C. 210, Trooper M. Corral told CBS 17.

Soon after, the SUV, also traveling east on N.C. 210, hit the trailer in nearly the same spot as the pickup, Corral said.

The two people in the SUV were injured. The driver was airlifted to WakeMed in Raleigh with serious injuries. The passenger was also transported to WakeMed with minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup received minor injuries, and the tractor-trailer driver was not injured.

Corral said alcohol or speeding was not involved. The tractor-trailer driver was cited for improper backing.
