Kayaker found after vanishing in Deep River in Moore County

HIGH FALLS, N.C. (WNCN) — Crews in Moore County said early Sunday they had found a kayaker who was missing for about three hours Saturday night.

Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue was at High Falls along the Deep River in northern Moore County during the search from about 9:30 p.m. Saturday to 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Four kayakers were in the Deep River and all fell out of their watercraft, an official with Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue said.

Three of the kayakers swam to shore and called 911, but the fourth was missing.

A command post was set up at the scene and crews used at least two kayaks during a search.

A North Carolina State Highway Patrol helicopter was also brought in to help in the search. The helicopter later spotted the missing kayaker around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Fire crews were also stationed on a bridge downriver to try to spot the lost kayaker in case he floated downstream.

High Falls Fire and Rescue, Carthage Fire and Rescue, Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety were at the scene.
