Man charged in Rocky Mount shooting death of 65-year-old woman

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) – Police have arrested 21-year-old Tyquon Marquese Draughn in the shooting death of 65-year-old Sandra Faye Epps, of Rocky Mount.

Authorities received a Shot Spotter activiation at 1716 Windsor Drive just before 1 a.m.

Officers arrived at the scene and located Epps, unresponsive and suffering a gunshot wound.

The Rocky Mount Homicide unit responded and arrested Draughn.

Draughn and Epps did not know each other and are not related, police said. It’s unknown if Epps was targeted.

Draughn has been charged with First Degree Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. He was placed in custody at the Edgecombe County Detention Center.

In 2019,  there have been six homicide cases — five shootings and a stabbing. The deadly incidents are all unrelated. 

In 2018, there were a total of 11 homicide cases.
