CARRBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — A Carrboro man is behind bars and accused of statutory rape, according to a release from the Carrboro Police Department.
Carlos Alberto Morales Lopez, 30, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Taskforce in Carrboro and charged with one count of statutory rape.
Police said in the release that they wanted to get his photograph out to the public in case there are additional incidents that have not been reported to law enforcement involving Morales Lopez.
If anyone has additional information on the case or information on any other incidents involving Morales Lopez, they are asked to call Carrboro police at (919) 918-7397 or Crime Stoppers at (919) 942-7515.
In the press release, police addressed concerns that community members may have regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement, saying:
“It seems likely that the U.S. Marshals Service Taskforce activity surrounding Mr. Morales Lopez’s arrest caused members of the community to be concerned that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were present at the arrest. The taskforce is comprised of various federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and is primarily focused on arresting dangerous fugitives. The police department has no information that there was any broader enforcement activity taken beyond the arrest of Morales Lopez.”
Morales Lopez is being held in the Orange County Jail under a $500,000 secured bond.
