It’s been three days since a fatal shooting at a barn party in Orange County.

For 18-year-old Lashiaya Melton, though, the emotions are still raw as she thinks about the future. Her twin sister, Rashiaya, died after being shot in the head Sunday.

“She was the funniest person I knew,” Melton said. “I don’t even know what I’m going to do without her because I lost my little brother six months ago and I still haven’t gotten over that.”

The two were at the party together early Sunday morning. Melton said she took off running when she heard the shots fired. She ran to her car, hoping her sister would be there. She was taken to UNC Hospital and later died there.

“I just want everyone to know that my sister did not deserve that. Like, she was a good person,” Melton said.

Takeem “Mudd” Haywood Norris Turrentine and Xzavier D’Andre Gibson are both in custody and charged with murder in connection with the shooting. Both appeared in court Wednesday and were given no bond.

A GoFundMe has been created for Rashiaya’s family.
