UNC police investigating after student reports sexual battery in parking lot

UNC-Chapel Hill police are investigating a reported sexual battery that occurred in a parking lot Thursday morning, according to a crime alert sent by the university.

A female student was walking from her car through the Friday Center Park and Ride lot off N.C. Highway 54 around 8 a.m. when the incident occurred.

According to the crime alert, the student reported that she was approached by a male suspect who touched her inappropriately and then fled from the parking lot.

UNC police searched the area for the man, but did not find him.

The suspect was described as a male in his mid-20s, around 5 foot 8, with a medium build, round face and a thin mustache. The suspect was wearing light brown pants and a flat-brimmed baseball hat, according to the crime alert.

The victim did not report seeing any weapons.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information in the case or anyone who sees suspicious activity should call 911 or contact Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crime Stoppers at (919) 942-7515.
