ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — Nash County Sheriff’s Office Deputies say they have arrested 22-year-old William Marcellus Major Jr. for fatally shooting his father Saturday night.

The incident was initially reported as “an accidental shooting” in the 7200 block of Summerlea Place near Rocky Mount, according to a news release from Nash County Chief Deputy Brandon Medina.

“Deputies arrived at the scene and were able to determine the call was actually a domestic homicide,” the news release said.

Medina said that there was no danger to area residents and the homicide was “an isolated incident.”

The victim has been identified as the suspect’s father, 51-year old William Marcelus Major.

Authorities say no clear motive has been established as to why the suspect decided to kill his father.

William Major Jr. was taken into custody at the Nash County Detention Facility with no bond and is scheduled for a first appearance in court on Tuesday.
