MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Spirit Airlines announced Tuesday that they will now be offering nonstop service to seven cities from Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

The flights will operate daily and year-round, the airline announced. Those seven flights will go from RDU to Baltimore (BWI), Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Detroit (DTW), Orlando (MCO), Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and New Orleans (MSY).

Spirit Airlines “operates one of the newest fleets of Airbus aircraft in the Americas,” the company said in a press release.

The airline will fly from RDU to Baltimore twice per day. The other six flights will be once daily.

“This community looks forward to not only Spirit’s commitment to low fares but also our shared priority of providing great customer service,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the RDU Airport Authority. “We are happy to welcome Spirit Airlines, the newest airline to join RDU and the Research Triangle community.”

According to the press release, RDU had more than 12.8 million passengers fly through the airport in the last calendar year and there are currently 68 nonstop destinations that can be reached from RDU. Spirit is the 10th carrier to serve travelers in the Triangle at RDU.

“We are excited to bring our low fares and signature service to the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, our third destination in the Tar Heel State,” said Matt Klein, Spirit Airlines’ senior vice president and COO.

The nonstop flights begin May 2.
