Two of three suspects nabbed in the shooting death of a dad over the weekend appeared in a Hoke County court on Monday.
Laroyce McLean and Sherron Leach walked into court Monday morning after their arrest Sunday evening.
The pair, along with James Quick, are accused of firing 30 shots into a truck with a toddler and the child’s parents inside early Sunday morning in Hoke County south of Raeford.
The father, Richard Locklear, 26, was killed. The mother of the toddler and another man were injured, but the toddler was not hurt.
Hoke County Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said McLean and Leach were part of plan to rob and kill.
He says they saw Locklear at a party earlier Sunday night.
The sheriff says the suspects followed him as he got in the car with his child and the child’s mom, then he says the suspects opened fire.
“The victims were pleading for their life, you’ve got a handgun and a rifle and you wanna live, but you still shoot anyway, it’s unreal, for some jewelry and money,” Peterkin said.
Peterkin says two of the shooters are involved in a gang.
Quick is being held in Richmond, Virginia and will be extradited back to Hoke County in the coming days.
