VASS, N.C. (WNCN) — A driver was seriously injured after he slammed into a semi truck that had stalled on a highway in Moore County Friday night, officials said.

The crash happened around 8:45 p.m. on U.S. 1 bypass at Cranes Creek Road north of Vass, according to an official with Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue.

The wreck happened as the tractor portion of a tractor-trailer pulled out from Cranes Creek Road and lost power.

While the driver of the large truck was trying to restart the vehicle, a man driving a Dodge Durango slammed into the back of the big rig, causing heavy damage to the Dodge.

The elderly man in the Dodge was taken to Moore County Hospital in serious condition, officials said.

The driver of the large truck was not hurt.
