RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Raleigh police say they made an arrest after a person was shot at an apartment complex and later died Saturday afternoon in northeast Raleigh.

At about 1:20 p.m., police responded to the 6100 block of Piedmont Ridge Circle near Triangle Prom Drive.

Upon arrival, police said they found Aaron Jamel Downer, 26, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Downer was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died, police said.

Police said soon after the shooting that they had a person in custody.

Late Saturday night, police said Willie Edward Frederick, 52, was charged with murder in connection with Downer’s shooting.

Frederick is in custody at the Wake County Detention Center.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex north of the Target store at Triangle Town Center. Several evidence markers were seen in the parking lot of the apartment complex.
