RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Two people, including a child, were taken to the hospital after a three-car crash on Interstate 540 Wednesday evening, officials said.

The accident happened about 8:30 p.m. on the eastbound side of the interstate near Triangle Town Center. A Toyota Corolla was broken down in the merge lane when the driver of a Honda failed to see the vehicle and rear-ended it, forcing the Corolla into a passing SUV, officials said.

The man in the Corolla was ejected from the vehicle, suffering serious injuries. A child in the Honda suffered minor injuries, officials said.

Troopers do not expect charges in the accident. The interstate was reopened around 10 p.m.
