Apex woman facing charges after slamming into back of police cruiser, officials say

APEX, N.C. (WNCN) — An Apex woman is facing multiple charges after police say she slammed her vehicle into the back of an Apex police cruiser that was parked on the side of the highway Tuesday morning.

According to Apex police, Chilea Dickson, 32, crashed her Kia Rio into the back of a police cruiser that was parked on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 1 near E. Williams Street with its emergency lights on around 12:46 a.m.

Dickson is accused of fleeing the scene before stopping about three-quarters of a mile down the highway.

Police said she faces 10 charges including driving while intoxicated, open container, possession of a controlled substance, hit-and-run, and failure to yield.

The police officer who was inside the vehicle at the time was transported to the hospital where the officer was treated for injuries and released.

The officer was able to finish the rest of his shift after his hospital release.

Dickson is being held in the Wake County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.
