Crash reported after transformer blows up in Garner; power restored to 2,700+

GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) - Garner police are investigating a crash that was caused by a power outage at an intersection, officials said.

A transformer blew up in the area of Timber Drive and Vandora Springs Road around 4:45 a.m. At approximately 5 a.m., a vehicle crash was reported at the intersection. Police said the cause of the crash was the power outage.

Minor injuries were reported in the crash, but police said no one was transported to the hospital.

Authorities were on scene directing traffic until just before 6:30 a.m.

More than 2,700 Duke Energy customers were without power in the area. Power restoration was expected between 7:45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., according to the company, but Garner police reported that power was coming back on in the area by 6:30 a.m.

Power had been restored to all customers by 10:40 a.m.
