RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Two people died in a fire late Monday afternoon that damaged a home just outside Raleigh’s eastern border, officials said.
The blaze was first reported around 5:15 p.m. at 5305 Castlebrook Drive, which is just off Southall Road and south of Buffaloe Road.
According to officials, George Rizk and his wife, Diana died in the fire.
Photos from the scene showed fire damage to the single-level home. Guffey said the blaze damaged about 50 percent of the house.
A dog inside the home was rescued, Guffey said.
The fire took at least an hour to get under control. Crews stayed at the scene for hours as they struggled to put out hot spots, Guffey said.
The cause of the blaze is not known. Officials are expected to return to the scene Tuesday to continue the fire investigation in daylight.
Wake New Hope Fire Department responded to the fire along with the Raleigh Fire Department.
Knightdale, New Hope, Garner and Rolesville fire units also responded to the scene.
