FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. (WNCN) – Some people in Fuquay Varina say they’ve blown out their tires multiple times on the same road – all because of potholes.

Multiple cars blew out tires within a few minutes of each other on Dwight Rowland Road last week.

“The conditions, when they’re bad, you’re kind of zigzagging through, you can’t really stay in your lane. If you have to cut the wheel to avoid going into one of them then you’re into oncoming traffic and they could someone else to sway on this side,” said Stacey Horvath.

Horvath lives in a subdivision off of Dwight Rowland Road and said the North Carolina Department of Transportation has been coming out to fill these potholes periodically for the past couple years.

“They’ll try to patch them up when they get really deep and then over time, we just keep driving over them and they break down again,” said Horvath.

Horvath says her daughter has blown out her tires twice on this road.

“We had to have it repaired. It’s a lot of money going through this over and over again.”

Horvath would like to see the road repaired.

Sean Williams with NCDOT says the road isn’t set to be repaved until 2021.

He admits sometimes during the colder months they will have to refill the potholes.

Williams says if you had damage to your car, NCDOT may be able to foot the bill.

“We have on our website property claims information so that folks that may have gotten damage from hitting the pothole can send in a damage claim and the attorney general will then make a decision based on whether or not the department was able to fix a pothole in enough time,” Williams said.

If you have had damage to your car, you can fill out a property damage claim here.

You can report a pothole here.

Williams says if you see one of these potholes, report it as soon as you see it.

NCDOT try to have them patched up within two business days.
