Garner business owners hoping for boost from Amazon fulfillment center

Wake County News

GARNER, N.C. (WNCN) – Full Bloom Coffee is known for giving that jolt to keep customers’ days “blooming.” Now it’s about to get a jolt of its own.

Construction of Amazon’s Garner fulfillment center is on track. When it’s done, around 1,500 people will be cashing their paychecks. Merchants hope they will use some of that money to help things not be so lean.

“Those jobs could be a huge boost for what’s going on I mean there’s so much growth around us why not have growth within. I think that would be really big for everyone here,” said Full Bloom Coffee barista Gabby Rosencrants.

It’s also the buzz just down the street at Monique’s Barber Shop.

“We’re just happy that it’s here,” said Joshua Holloman. “Definitely just how big it is just in this area. It’s going to bring a lot of people together.”

While there is joy and excitement, people recognize that it comes with a price. The site is where Con-Agra once stood. A 2009 explosion killed four people forcing the plant to close. Since then, Garner has worked to recover.

“Honestly like we were just talking, me and my friend, how Garner needs some more things and a lot of people don’t know how great Garner is especially in the downtown area,” said Full Bloom customer Natalie Toy.

Rosencrants added: “It’s like the perfect balance of city living without all the hassle of city living, I would say. You’re just far enough from the city but just close enough as well.”
