A helicopter is on its side at the North Carolina State Highway Patrol’s  landing zone at Garner and Tryon roads in Raleigh, police confirmed.

The aircraft belongs to the Highway Patrol, officials said.

The occupants were identified as Trooper R. M. Collie and passenger Clint Stone, who is an Assistant Federal Security Director with the TSA/Federal Air Marshal Service.

CBS 17’s Robert Richardson said he saw an ambulance leave the scene when he arrived at 2:35 p.m.

A news release from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety said that, when the helicopter lifted off the ground, the pilot lost control and the rotor of the unit stuck the ground.

The pilot was transported to the SHP’s medical office for evaluation of minor injuries. A passenger was transported to Wake Medical Center with minor injuries.

The NTSB, FAA, and Patrol’s Reconstruction Unit will investigate the crash.
