RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — It’s happened again — a tractor-trailer was caught under Raleigh’s Peace Street Bridge on Thursday morning.
According to Raleigh police, the truck struck the railroad bridge shortly before 7:30 a.m.
Peace Street had limited access following the crash as the road was closed from West Street to Glenwood Avenue so crews could work on pulling the truck out.
Police said the North Carolina Department of Transportation and Norfolk Southern were made aware of the incident.
CBS 17 spoke with the driver of the 18-wheeler who said he didn’t realize the bridge was too low for his truck until it was too late.
The out-of-town driver said he was navigating on his phone and by the time he realized the bridge was too low it was too late to do anything.
The truck is carrying merchandise for Pier 1 Imports. The driver was not injured.
