Lake Boone Trail in Raleigh closed through Tuesday after water main break

Wake County News

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Raleigh police say an area of Lake Boone Trail will stay closed during the day Tuesday after a water main break Monday afternoon during rush-hour.

The incident was reported around 4:45 p.m. along Lake Boone Trail in the Ridge Road/ Dixie Trail area.

A City of Raleigh truck responding to the site was stuck for a while where the water had washed out an area under the pavement.

Raleigh police asked drivers to avoid the area of the 3300 and 3400 blocks of the road, between Ridge Road and Horton Street.

Officials later said the road will be closed throughout the day Tuesday — after initially saying it would reopen by 6 a.m. Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, officials said that “An eight-inch water main has been repaired and water has been restored to 43 residential residents. Crews are now working to repair approximately 300 feet of roadway.”

The city expects to have an estimated time of completion determined Tuesday morning.

City authorities issued a recommended detour around the area:

Westbound traffic on Lake Boone Trail will make a right onto Horton Street, left onto Ridge Road, and a right onto Lake Boone Trail.

Eastbound traffic on Lake Boone Trail will make a left onto Ridge Road, right onto Horton Street, and a left onto Lake Boone Trail.
