RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Raleigh officials say that they will close a busy road for up to three months to repair a sinkhole.
Lake Wheeler Road between Maywood Avenue and Centennial Parkway will be closed starting Monday, according to a news release from Raleigh city officials.
The stretch of road will be closed between 8 and 12 weeks, the news release said.
Crews will replace a pipe under the road while the sinkhole is repaired.
The sinkhole formed in November 2018 and the city initially planned to repair the pipe, officials said.
The following detour will be in place:
- Northeast-bound traffic will be routed to Centennial Parkway toward Avent Ferry Road and Western Boulevard.
- Southwest-bound traffic will be routed to Western Blvd. to Avent Ferry Road to Centennial Parkway and then to Lake Wheeler Road.
