Man hit by train near Fairgrounds in Raleigh, police say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — An investigation is underway after a man was struck by a train near the North Carolina State Fairgrounds on Thursday morning, Raleigh police said.

The call came in shortly before 5:30 a.m. in the area of Beryl Road at Blue Ridge Road. A train was stopped on the tracks, blocking the intersections of Hillsborough Street and Blue Ridge Road, as well as Hillsborough Street and Beryl Road.

Emergency crews and police were on the scene for hours. For hours, police said they couldn’t confirm that it was a pedestrian that was hit on the tracks. At 8:30 a.m., police confirmed that a male pedestrian had been struck by a train and transported to WakeMed.

The man’s condition is not known.

The roads were reopened shortly after 8 a.m.
