A family of three was hospitalized after an accident that closed U.S. 1 south near I-540 north Wednesday night, troopers said.
The call came in for the two-vehicle wreck at 9:37 p.m. A Ford failed to reduce its speed, hitting a blue Dodge Durango from behind, which caused the Dodge to overturn in the roadway, officials said.
The male driver of the Dodge, his wife, and their 8-year-old child were taken to WakeMed in Cary, troopers said.
The driver of the Dodge was identified as Louis Moctezuma-Marban, 35, of Aberdeen. The driver of the Ford was 35-year-old Kameron Andrews, of Raleigh.
Andrews is charged with failing to reduce speed to avoid collision. Troopers estimated he was going 70 mph at the time of the crash.
The road reopened around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday.
