KNIGHTDALE, N.C. (WNCN) - A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper was involved in a crash on U.S. Route 64 in Knightdale Thursday morning, according to highway patrol officials.
The crash occurred just after 7 a.m. on the left shoulder of U.S. 64 near Wendell Boulevard and involved a highway patrol cruiser and an SUV.
According to highway patrol officials, Trooper J.S. Batchelor had pulled over in the median area to remove a tire from the lanes. Before exiting his cruiser, the driver of an SUV, a 22-year-old female from Nashville, swerved to avoid the debris, skidded off the road and slammed into the trooper's vehicle.
Authorities reported that Batchelor and the driver of the other vehicle both suffered injuries. The trooper's injuries were described as minor and the driver of the SUV had "unknown injuries," according to officials.
One lane of U.S. 64 was closed as the scene was processed and the crash cleared. It has since reopened.
Authorities said no charges have been filed at this time.
