NCDOT installing new signs after CBS 17 shows video of wrong-way driver on Raleigh road

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Dash cam video published last week shows a scary situation unfold on Capital Boulevard.

Reddit user, Alumbrado, posted the six-second clip in which a car can be seen driving into oncoming traffic – the wrong way – on Capital Boulevard near Fenton Street.

CBS 17 spoke with people who work near the intersection who said they see wrong-way driving too often. We took the video straight to the North Carolina Department of Transportation to find out if it thinks the posted signs are enough to alert drivers.

After we asked the question, the agency confirmed it sent a field crew out to assess the area where the video was taken, and are now in the process of installing seven new signs and replacing six that were already posted.

Sean Williams works in NCDOT’s communications office.

“From you guys letting us know – we love that and we definitely need it and rely on it,” Williams said. “It’s really helpful to kind of have you guys as partners in making these roadways safer.”

Williams said the best way to report trouble spots to NCDOT is through their website.
