RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Raleigh police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh Friday afternoon.
The collision occurred at approximately 1:09 p.m. near the intersection of New Bern Avenue and S. Pettigrew Street, police said.
A 60-year-old man was crossing the road when he decided to run back the way he came, police said.
He was struck as he reached the far right lane.
As of 2:30 p.m., the man was undergoing a CT scan for head trauma.
Raleigh police said he is listed in critical and unstable condition.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian remained at the scene.
Police have not said if any charges will be filed.
The intersection is currently shut down and the scene is surrounded by police tape.
