RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A Raleigh mother of two who was shot to death by her husband inside their Brier Creek home on July 4, 2018, was shot seven times, according to an autopsy report released Tuesday.
Raleigh police responded to a shooting in the 9400 block of Misty Creek Lane around 4:26 p.m. on July 4. The 911 caller said her son had shot himself in the head. The son was identified as 34-year-old Nicholas Talarico, an affidavit said.
Police identified a second victim inside the home as Ashley Talarico, 30.
According to police, Nicholas Talarico shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself.
The newly released autopsy shows that Ashley Talarico was shot seven times — once in the head, three times in the back/neck/face area, once in the chest and once in each arm.
The medical examiners said in the report that they were not sure of the sequence of the injuries.
According to a warrant obtained several weeks after the murder-suicide, Nicholas Talarico had asked his mother to take the children to the pool the day he shot and killed his wife.
The mother was the one who made the gruesome discovery.
Upon returning from the pool, the mother said in a 911 call that she was downstairs and noticed that she didn’t see either Nicholas or Ashley. So, she went upstairs and found Nicholas “deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the affidavit said.
According to both the warrant and a 911 call placed by his mother, she only saw Nicholas’ body and not Ashley’s. Neither of the couple’s children saw the upstairs crime scene.
