Raleigh police investigating murder-suicide near Brier Creek

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) - Raleigh police are investigating a murder-suicide that occurred inside a home in the afternoon on the Fourth of July.

A report of a shooting came in around 4:30 p.m. Officials said it happened off Brier Creek Parkway near Globe Road.

When CBS 17 arrived on the scene, about six police cruisers surrounded a home in the 9400 block of Misty Creek Lane.

The police presence surprised those in the neighborhood.

"It's a bit shocking because it's an easygoing neighborhood," said neighbor Elut Hsu. "Everyone knows everybody."

"You seldom even see police in the area, much less anything like this going on. So, a little nerve-racking," added neighbor Peter Flack.

Neighbors said a mother, father, and their two young sons live at the home. They said the family has lived there for about two years, and moved to the neighborhood from New Jersey.

Police sent a press release Thursday morning saying the investigation revealed that a murder-suicide had occurred inside the home.

Ashley Lauren Talarico, 30, was shot to death, according to police. Nicholas Robert Talarico, 34, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Neighbors said they saw the two sons outside the home after the shooting, but the police wouldn't confirm that.

The double-fatal shooting is still under investigation.
