RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — As of Tuesday, Raleigh’s Historic Oakwood Cemetery is 150 years old.
The cemetery is launching a year of commemoration with the theme “For Generations to Come.”
More than 25,000 souls rest at the cemetery and families will now be able to look up ancestors to find out where on the property they are buried.
On Tuesday, there was a wreath ceremony for the first two people buried at Oakwood — William Robert Andrews and Max Erlanger.
The cemetery has launched a brand new website where people can learn more about the cemetery’s history and search the burial records.
