NEW YORK (CBS 17) — A group of students from a Holly Springs middle school were big winners in New York City after coming away with the grand prize in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition.
The students from Holly Grove Middle School were tasked with creating a real-world solution for a problem.
So, they designed a stop sign that flashes when a bus approaches, to alert drivers and students waiting there.
In order to make the sign work, the students used bus coordinates and the Pythagorean Theorem to determine how far the bus is from the sign.
The students took home the grand prize totaling more than $110,000 worth of technology for their school and the Community Service Award.
