RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A Wake County man is charged with attempted murder after deputies said he not only tried to shoot his girlfriend in the face with a rifle but also tried to drown her in a tub, warrants show.
Christopher Ryan Griggs, 34, was arrested around 11 p.m. April 5 and charged with felony attempted murder, felony first-degree kidnapping, misdemeanor interfere with emergency communication, and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.
Griggs is accused of kidnapping his girlfriend before he tried to kill her by attempting to shoot her in the face with a rifle, warrants say. Griggs is also accused of trying to drown the woman in a tub in his home on Lizard Lick Road, west of Zebulon.
The Wake County Sheriff’s Office said Griggs was upset about some text messages his girlfriend was receiving.
Court documents also say he took his girlfriend’s cellphone so she could not call 911.
Griggs then barricaded himself in the home and refused to surrender to a Wake County Sheriff’s Office tactical team who were trying to serve an arrest warrant on him, warrants say.
The tactical team had to “make entry and retrieve” Griggs who then refused to put his hands behind his back, warrants say.
Griggs is ordered to not have contact with the victim.
He is being held on a total bond of $251,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in court on April 24 during the morning session.
