RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Multiple schools in Wake County went on lockdowns Friday.
Zebulon and East Millbrook magnet middle schools were placed under Code Red lockdowns in the morning because of threats that were made on social media.
Parents confirmed to CBS 17 that Broughton High and Oberlin Middle schools were on Code Yellow lockdowns.
The Zebulon school said dismissal began around 12:15 p.m.
East Millbrook lifted its Code Red at 10:55 a.m., the school’s website said. Its lockdown began around 9:27 a.m.
East Millbrook said it would operate on an altered schedule for the rest of the day. There also will be additional law enforcement on campus. The school urges people not to come to campus to pick up their student.
“We will continue with a regular day of teaching and learning,” East Millbrook said on its website.
Both schools said all students are safe.
CBS 17 asked a school spokeswoman for information about the lockdowns to possibly help ease the minds of parents.
“This is the copycat effect when media widely reports threats,” Wake County Public Schools System spokeswoman Lisa Luten replied in a text message to a CBS 17 reporter.
Luten also said no one from the school would be able to talk to the media.
“We have found that doing that triggers immediate copycat threats,” Luten replied in a text message.

The schools said they will send updates to all parents via text and email and post additional information on the website as soon as possible.
