GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — An 18-year-old man is facing a rape charge in connection with a sexual assault that the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said occurred in June 2018.
Authorities announced Wednesday that Daniel Ricks Turnage, of Goldsboro, was arrested on Christmas Day in connection with the sexual assault of a female juvenile that occurred six months earlier.
According to the sheriff's office, an investigation into the sexual assault began in June 2018 and during the course of the investigation, Turnage was developed as a suspect.
"Several items of evidence were processed by a private lab and as a result of those findings the Wayne County Sheriff’s Special Victim’s Unit subsequently charged Daniel Ricks Turnage with first-degree statutory rape," officials wrote in a press release.
Ricks was arrested and taken to the Wayne County Magistrate's Office where his bond was set at $350,000 secured.
