Authorities rule former Fremont mayor’s death a homicide

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that former Fremont mayor Floyd Anthony Evans’ death has been ruled a homicide.

A news release said Evans died as a result of a gunshot wound, according to information from the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Evans was found dead Saturday around 1:20 p.m., according to a news release from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Evans was found at a property he owns at 129 Evans Farm Road in Fremont, according to a news release.

Evans’ neighbors declined to comment on his death. Several people said Evans was Fremont’s mayor in the late 1990s, and although it has been years since he held the office, he was still well-known.

The SBI is helping with the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
