GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — A Goldsboro teen is being held on a nearly $50,000 bond after he was charged over the weekend with stealing six puppies, officials say.
Malyk Rasheed Williams, 19, was arrested after a deputy stopped a vehicle around midnight Saturday along U.S. 70 East in front of Wilbur’s BBQ, a news release from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said.
The driver was taken into custody on previous warrants and deputies said “a strong odor of marijuana” was coming from the car.
Williams, who was in the back seat, was questioned and taken into custody on a previous failure to appear in court, the news release said.
Later, Williams was charged with breaking and/or entering, larceny after breaking and/or entering, larceny of a firearm and six counts of larceny of a dog.
A news release from deputies said the stolen dogs were puppies.
Williams was being held on a $49,000 bond in the Wayne County Detention Center.
No other details were immediately available.
